We believe vibrant communities create opportunities that allow residents to live fuller, more rewarding lives. As a reliable partner, we are proud to do our part to help to make our communities better – together.
By partnering with local nonprofit organizations through our Home Ownership Program, we are proud to provide an opportunity for qualified working families in our service territory to become first-time homeowners. To date, more than 240 homes have been completed through partnerships with Asbury Park’s Interfaith Neighbors, Inc., Homes for All, Inc., Morris Habitat for Humanity, Monmouth Habitat for Humanity, Coastal Habitat for Humanity, and Homes Now.
Our Volunteers Inspiring Service in Our Neighborhoods (VISION) program provides employees and retirees, along with their families and friends, the opportunity to give back to the community. Prior to the pandemic, our team of volunteers contributed more
than 5,000 hours at more than 50 community events each year. We hope you join us at our biggest event of the year: our 19th annual Ocean Fun Days – a celebration of ocean discovery, coastal stewardship and energy conservation – is back in person on May 21 at Island Beach State Park and May 22 at Sandy Hook! NJNG is also a proud sponsor of Earth CareDay and many EarthShare New Jersey programs throughout the year.
In addition, few NJNG initiatives have more potential impact or profound reach than our education programs, which encourage academic excellence and performance. In partnership with those who share our hopes of building a promising future for today’s youth through lifelong education, we aim to stimulate learning, increase motivation and open a world of opportunities beyond school years. Not only do we proudly help sponsor Beable, a life-ready literacy program, to students in underrepresented towns in our service territory, we also have our Project Venture mentoring program that lets students experience the business world firsthand. Now in the program’s 33rd year, Project Venture mentors are paired with local students from Asbury Park and Lakewood middle schools, helping them build a solid foundation for their future careers.
For the last fifteen years, we have been a leader in energy efficiency in New Jersey. In 2021, we continued to deliver on our commitment to help customers lower their carbon footprint, as well as save money by reducing their energy consumption. Through Conserve to Preserve® (CTP) — our commitment to environmental stewardship — we offer customers tools and resources to make wise energy decisions that help save energy and money and protect our environment. NJNG’s The SAVEGREEN Project® puts energy efficiency in reach with rebates and incentives – including a 0% APR On-Bill Repayment Program – to help make equipment upgrades and whole-house solutions affordable.* In fiscal 2021, SAVEGREEN invested $31.7 million in a variety of programs to support the installation of new and efficient equipment, resulting in an annual savings of nearly 4.3 million therms or nearly 23,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2). This is equivalent to the annual energy usage of 2,760 homes.
Over the next three years, through SAVEGREEN, NJNG plans to invest up to $259 million in energy efficiency alongside our customers. Plus, NJNG can help customers save more than 128 million therms of natural gas, preventing the emission of over 677,000 metric tons of CO2 – the equivalent of taking 146,000 cars off the road.
We’ve also demonstrated leadership when it comes to taking action to drive lower emissions and control methane in NJNG’s system – while continuing to provide safe, reliable service. To date, NJNG operates the most environmentally friendly system in the state, as measured by leaks per mile.
NJNG’s parent company, New Jersey Resources (NJR), stands committed to a clean, sustainable future and we support public policy goals for greenhouse gas emissions reduction to address the urgency of climate change.
In addition, NJR is further building on our record of environmental responsibility and sustainability leadership by launching the Coastal Climate Initiative, which helps fight climate change in the communities we serve. And, by the year 2050, we believe NJNG will be able to serve our customers with a carbon neutral fuel supply, by transitioning to carbon-neutral and zero emission fuels like RNG and green hydrogen. In doing so we will help reach the state’s climate goals more quickly, more affordably, with greater reliability and in a way that complements our state’s clean energy ambitions.
