Rain Barrel Art Auction Supports a Cleaner & Greener NJ

Rain Barrel Art Auction Supports a Cleaner & Greener NJ
NY/NJ Trail Conference Rain Barrel painted by artists and Trail Conference members, Madeline Giotta and James Martocci

The EarthShare New Jersey original Rain Barrel Art Auction continues with upcoming barrels from NY/NJ Trail Conference, the Pinelands Preservation Alliance, and Flat Rock Brook Nature Center being launched on eBay in the coming weeks.  To date, rain barrels for EarthShare New Jersey, Clean Ocean Action and Conserve Wildlife Foundation of NJ have all been auctioned off.  The winners have been excited to have a piece of art that helps them to be more involved with water conservation.

Thanks to a donation of barrels from Ocean Spray Cranberries, Inc. in Bordentown, N.J., each of the 24 members of EarthShare New Jersey will have a one-of-a-kind rain barrel designed to capture the important work each of these charities do for our environment.  The auctions are designed to raise awareness and funds for the local members of EarthShare New Jersey.

The next auction has begun on eBay and represents NY/NJ Trail Conference. Painted by artists and Trail Conference members, Madeline Giotta and James Martocci, this rain barrel celebrates the beauty of our region and pays homage to the Trail Conference’s legacy. Giotta’s true-to-life map traces portions of the trail system in Storm King State Park, and Martocci draws inspiration from the mountain views of Liberty Township in Central New Jersey and Hemlock Pond in the Delaware Water Gap for his display of seasons in the woods.

The proceeds of each auction will be shared between EarthShare New Jersey and the organization for which it was designed.

Rain Barrels offer a long-term, sustainable way to collect and store the rain water that drains from our roofs and gutters. The water can then be used around the home, in the garden, or even for hydration as long as it is adequately filtered and cleaned. Each of the rain barrels being auctioned off are not only functional, but exquisite one of a kind works of art designed by artists from across the state.

Artists are needed to help make this a reality for all of our local members.  If you are interested, please contact Paula Aldarelli at paldarelli@earthsharenj.org or 609-989-1160.

We are currently looking for a sponsor so that the proceeds of each auction can have a corporate match making this even more beneficial for NJ’s environment.  Contact the ESNJ office if you or your business is interested. For more information on how the auction works, click here.
