That’s who we are honoring this year as part of EarthShare Celebrates New Jersey. This annual event recognizes the environmental commitment and contributions of businesses, individuals and organizations that have and are continuing to make a difference in New Jersey’s environment.
The New Jersey School of Conservation is receiving the EarthShare New Jersey Environmental Education Award. At one time, educators from state colleges were required to attend programming at this environmental institution. School children, science teachers, environmental advocates and so many more garnered their passion for nature here. While this stoic institution has been challenged, the Friends of the NJ School of Conservation are working hard to make sure the legacy continues. We are honored to recognize the contributions the school has made, and the future it has.
Individuals who chose to care about the environment do it in so many ways. Russell Furnari has done it personally and professionally for years and while his position with PSEG enabled him to work for our environment every day, he fought for the environment equally as well as a board member and volunteer for many of the state’s leading environmental non-profits. As chairman of the New Jersey Corporate Wetlands Restoration Partnership (NJCWRP), he brought other businesses to the environmental table restoring, preserving, enhancing and protecting aquatic habitats throughout the state. Russ has certainly demonstrated a lifelong commitment to nature, and we are privileged to honor him with the EarthShare New Jersey Environmental Stewardship Award.
Companies large and small are putting their environmental commitment into action, TIAA is certainly among those. With multiple locations in the Garden State, they have renovated buildings and workspaces with sustainability in mind. Their employees regularly volunteer with environmental non-profits across the state removing invasive species, restructuring trails, planting bulbs, removing debris from waterways and much more. TIAA has put their corporate social responsibility commitment front and center in all that they do and for this, we are privileged to present them with the EarthShare New Jersey Environmental Leadership Award.
